Skyline Rocked with Taff Rocks

A Taff Rocks rock painting workshop, our very first public event, supported a Project Skyline event today - and it was out of this world!  We were there to run a workshop for those who were taking a break from constructing a new solar-powered bench with the local children and young people.

Initially, the event was to have happened on the Mount Pleasant Fields, but, as it is typical in Wales, the rain stopped play! But no, it did not! The event was moved to an indoor venue with the woodworking workshop going ahead outdoors because the rain felt it would hold out for a while.

Whilst the children and young people, supported by professionals, were busy woodworking, we were indoors rocking!!!!!!

We were overwhelmed with the support that we had, and the subsequent messages on our Facebook group. 

Everyone was encouraged to take part, some 'objected' but that soon changed, we even had the film/camera guy involved! He created the 'Skyline Bee' you might see in the image further down the page.

The participants were given full artistic license as to their choice of design for their rocks, but everyone was asked if they could, at least, paint one Bumblebee rock to support our upcoming Beeline in June, and they did us so proud.

Here is only a very, very small selection of bees painted today, the rest have flown away to their creator's homes until the Beeline in June.

Rock painting is a brilliant, multi-generational, family activity and suitable for all ages and abilities, even those that profess to not being able to paint or draw.

A family activity

All those taking a break from the main event, woodworking, were able to paint whatever rocks they desired.

We've always said this activity is suitable for all ages!

The solar-powered bench will be installed, at a later date, in the Mount Pleasant Area, and we can't wait!

We were so busy indoors, we didn't manage to take any other photos of the construction process, but the work everyone had done was fantastic. Coached, guided and watched over by professionals, the young people use all the power tools, saws, and equipment to construct the first part of the bench.

By the time the rock painting had finished, the two Taff Rocks facilitators were absolutely shattered but felt intensely accomplished. We hope our third facilitator gets well soon as she had to miss out today due to illness.

After four hours of amazing rocking, everyone left feeling that so much had been accomplished!
